Se denominaban con el nombre de "Guerrero Jaguar" (en náhuatl: ocēlōpilli) a ciertos miembros del ejército azteca, quienes eran Guerreros profesionales. Que pertenecían a la clase baja, los mācēhualtin. Estos soldados eran algo así como las "fuerzas especiales" del estado Mexica, distinguiéndose de los guerreros águila (cuāuhpilli), que sólo podían proceder de sangre perteneciente a la nobleza. Estos dos tótems se solían usar debido a la creencia que las águilas y jaguares representaban respectivamente la luz y la oscuridad en la mitología azteca. El guerrero jaguar solían enviarse al frente de la batalla durante las campañas militares, mientras que el Guerrero águila eran explorador, espía y mensajero, para alcanzar este estatus, debían capturar doce enemigos vivos en dos campañas consecutivas, es decir, seis en una y los otros seis en la siguiente.
En muchas de las obras que nos legó la civilización azteca (códices, estatuas, ímágenes) quedaron representados estos guerreros.
